If you are not familiar with The Points Guy, go ahead and check out the site. It is a great resource for understanding how to maximize your travel rewards. It is VERY helpful.
I’ll wait. Go check it out. I’ll be here.
Pretty cool site, eh? I think so too. If I’m looking for details on one of my memberships, I sometimes find it easy to find the answer to my question there than on the vendor’s site.
I came across the app TPG to Go
It has 5 sections:
- Home – Here you get some summary information. A little bit of news, some info on your rotating categories, nearby merchants, and recent transactions.
- TPG Now – some headlines from thepointsguy.com
- Pay – This section takes your credit cards (that you’ve set up in TPG to Go) and let’s you know by category which card to use for what category, based on rewards.
- Rewards – This section takes the transactions from your registered cards, shows you how much value you earned in rewards, and let’s you know if you it thinks you should have used a different card to earn more value. (Missed rewards)
- Wallet – Here is where you set up the cards you have. Enter your login for you cards’ websites and it’ll pull the necessary data in.
Overall, it’s a neat app. I found some of the recommendations didn’t really add up in my opinion. It seems the app really like my Capital One Venture card (2% cash back towards travel). Where as I would prefer my Hilton Aspire (7PPD at $.005 per point value or $.035). Not to mention that my priority is my Delta Reserve card to get my MQMs for status.
While I would not take the recommendations as gospel, this app certainly provides some keen insight on a day by day basis on how you can maximize your rewards.
Update December 19th, 2018:
Since this post was first published. TPG has pulled both the iOS and the Android version of this app. They are working on a new version and will publish that when it is ready.
